SBQ 08/07/08

This week's SBQ was suggested by Outi and is: What do you do with your thread clippings? Do you just scrap them or do you use them in something else?

I keep my ort in a glass jar. I used to just toss them every so often or put them on the lawn in case of bare bird nests but nowadays I find myself saving them. Who know what for? I've heard they make great bear stuffing. It would have to be a pretty small teddy bear! They are kind of pretty, just as they are. I'll just continue to save them in my jar and one day perhaps I'll find a use for them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Confession time: I find myself collecting ort from the floor and carrying them back to my jar. Why not throw it out? Come on, girl...It's one little ort! Are you really going to miss it? Yes. I might.
Hee hee! I even bring my travel scraps back for the jar.
Your collection looks prettier than mine. You must stitch with a prettier color palette than I do. Mine get used to stuff pin cushions. You don't need as much as you would to stuff a bear. (Sounds like Thanksgiving in the woods ;=)
I started keeping mine as of Jan 1 this year...for what...?? I think I wanted to see how much I would accumulate over the year. Just one more thing I save :)
I put mine in a bin that I keep beside my chair (it gets used for nothing else) and on Dec 31 at Midnight it goes in the bin, I keep hoping that on year I'l fill it completely!
I keep mine in a plastic baggie. I have a little plastic jar I carry when I travel to put them in. I figure some day I'll have enough to stuff a pillow!
Your ort jar looks so pretty! I have one of Kathy's Snip It Jars which sits on my coffee table but I empty it occasionally! I also have a small wood box for my garden stitching
Your jar of orts looks really pretty indeed. I have my orts container too, one in my room and another one in my living room..LOL.I normally clear them out after a certain period of time.I have used orts for a pincushion and a fob once. I found that its not cushy and soft and I don't like the feel of it. Since then, I never use orts for my fillings.
I have an ort sack,I keep meaning to save for ornies but mine gets full quickly,so I chuck away.They do make pretty ort ornies in clear plastic boxes with some sequins and charms.
GREAT idea!!! I must admit, I'm one of those dimbulbs who tosses her orts right & left over the sides of the couch--over the back of the couch--in front of my feet, etc.
Then, at the end of every day I vacuum them all up! Then, I have to listen to my husband rant & rage about having to replace the vacuum belt because the orts plugged it up & burned it out. LOLllllll.
What is worse is that I have at LEAST three containers that I specifically put on my stitching side-table to USE FOR ORTS. Do you think a single ort goes INTO those containers?
.....Nope!
What can I say? : sigh : I have 'issues'!
I have so much other STUFF in my house I can't seem to find a reason to collect scrap threads. But that is just me, maybe when someone comes up with the newest ORT ornament I will be inspired.
I;m like Julie and tend to find my orts all over the place. The either end up in the hoover or in the bin.
I can;t wait to see your Pansy Sampler all stitched up Sharon. Being purple I just love it!
well, I wrote this lovely comment then lost it. Lets see if I can do it again.
I am such an ort collector I went out and bought a beautiful crystal candy bowl to keep them in. When I am away I save them, bring them home and add them to my bowl too. I will pick up loose orts and return them to the bowl. The day I found one on a frozen pork chop in the freezer I cracked up laughing. I have no idea how it got there. I am thinking of using them to stuff stitched things one day but I usually throw them out at the end of a season.
Hi THere, I found your blog and having so much fun reading this. I have to let you know my ort jar looks very similiar to yours though when mine fills up I have picked up a dozen xmas bulbs and put them in their to decorate the the tree with. not everyone's cup of tea but when I see the different colors it reminds me off the larger projects I have done and given away.
