I've finished the header on Crabby All Year. Now, it has to be put away until February. (I really just want to keep going!) I am really pleased with this project so far.
Since we still have another few days left of January (until I can begin the Love Stinks block) I took out my WIP box and pulled Peacock Cypher. See this post to see where I left off last. I did two lines of mosaic stitches and started the flowers on the next row. Whoops! I reversed the colors on the rows of mosaics! I dinna care, lassies, I'm leavin' it be! This is the only band sampler I've ever worked on and find it is very enjoyable. I've also worked very little in monochromatic stitching but I do like the effect.

This picture is proof of how obsessive I can be. Excuse the wrinkles. When I buy fabric especially for a project I can get a little freaked out about the margins. Did I add correctly? Is there enough fabric? What if I don't center it right? Better add another inch or two, just in case. Good Lord. There is SIX INCHES of extra fabric on each side of Peacock Cypher. ROFLOL. Somehow, I don't tend to do this if I already have fabric on hand and pull from stash.
Thank you for visiting my blog today!
xox
I do exactly the same with my fabric lol. Mad aren't we, but I'd still rather be safe than sorry!
ReplyDeleteLove the Crabby All Year! I have to take a closer look at this. This fits me to a T! Look forward to seeing more.
ReplyDeleteLove the band sampler! I'm putting Crabby away today for the Quaker SAL.
ReplyDeleteNice work on Crabby All Year. And that is the reason I winter in Arizona
ReplyDeleteI overbuy the fabric too!! But, the leftover pieces make great ornaments
Crabby All Year looks good.
ReplyDeleteYou seem to have made some good progress on Peacock Cypher.
I dread not starting the right place and ending up running out of material. Thankfully its not happened yet.
You can always frame it with a heck of a lot of margin I guess! LOL
ReplyDeleteLooking great!
Crabby is looking great! I love your Peacock Cypher too, I have this one in my stash to do someday.
ReplyDeleteLOLOLOL! 6 inches! omg... well I guess I shouldn't laugh because I used to do 4! I love the Crabby.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I think it's gonna fit!! LOL
ReplyDeleteI love Crabby, looks great so far! Your band sampler is wonderful too, I leave extra fabric too :)
ReplyDeleteI think you might just have enough fabric around the edges for your peacock sampler, lol ;) I love the floss you're using for it, gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteThere is a shop with CRABBY clerks where I sometimes buy fabric. They aren't that patient as I am obsessing about how much fabric to buy. When I hear how much it's going to cost, I suddenly become much less obsessive and trim down my amount. Then when I start a piece I keep figuring out where to start.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I have seen so many people do is start at the top of the piece. I tend to start in the middle as that is how I learned.
You band sampler is really lovely-I especially love the "I dinna care, lassies!" Laughed out loud. You're always catching me by surprise and making me laugh! Thanks!
Crabby is looking gr8! I love the names of the blocks. 6 inch borders are GOOD! It is better to find out after weeks or months of stitching that you didn't have enough! Peacock Cyber is gorgeous...monochromatic designs are very striking.
ReplyDeleteCrabby looks good. I've still not got round to getting the chart for cypher!
ReplyDeletelove both your wip's! can't wait to see them all finished! Thanks for your comments on my blog!
ReplyDeleteI think you should cheat and start Feb. on Crabby. Beautiful colors on PC. And yes, I obsess about fabric size also--I've been fretting that I've only got 4 inches on each side of my current project and I'm worried because it pretty much requires that you start in the corner.
ReplyDeleteWow...I just love the CRABBY pattern. It is really cute. And I agree with one of the comments above - you could probably start and we won't tell ;).
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks like there are a lot of us out there who like to be "safe than sorry" with the additional fabric. I like the idea of doing that and then using any extra for ornaments, or even book marks. Great use of scraps for gifts giving uses.
Take care!
Oh I so understand your obsession as I have it too but it stood me in good stead when on starting Nantucket Rose I centred the top of the work and off I went forgetting that the design comes "out of frame" on the bottom left hand side. Luckily I still have a couple of inches to spare when it comes to framing.
ReplyDeleteThe Crabby is lovely and I will enjoy watching this one grow.
Both projects look great!
ReplyDeleteCrabby All Year is just adorable! I can see why you would want to keep on going.
ReplyDeleteGee, I hope you have enough fabric around your peacock stitching! LOL
Just kidding. I do the same thing sometimes. Well, okay, maybe not 6 inches! You win the prize. LOL I see lots of ornaments and floss tag stitching in your future. LOL
I love to see your progress on the Crabby. You have a week to do some stitches to other project, I know it's hard to wait when you really want to stitch something. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat progress on Crabby!
ReplyDeleteI'm just opposite to you on fabric, I try to work with the meanest, skinniest little margins I can possibly get away with. One day I will get caught out badly ;)
Crabby looks fab!!
ReplyDeleteAt least you will have plenty left over for matching accessories!!
great stitching... I am looking forward to February to see the next "crabby" month!!
ReplyDeleteNice stitching. You can make floss tags out of the leftover margins!
ReplyDeleteGG girl! That's more than six inches on each side! ROFL! I don't see where you mixed up on the colors though...
ReplyDeleteI love your Crabby Year :o) I can understand why you don't want to put it down.
I love your Crabby All Year WIP! I am enjoying watching it grow. And regarding fabric margins, I can think of at least two projects that I have done where I had only 2inches on each side and that seemed too little, so better to err on the side of caution, I think.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are inspired, that's a good thing.
ReplyDeleteWow, you could make that sucker into a pillow no problem! LOL ;oP I've never done a mono-chromatic. I think I'm afraid that I will get bored.
Hahaha! I'm a freak about my fabby too---no one will ever accuse me of not having enough fabric for finishing. It looks wonderful so far!
ReplyDeleteCrabby is looking great! I like the band sampler too. Love the colors.
ReplyDeleteLove the band sampler, what a super colour thread.
ReplyDeleteCrabby is great, roll on Feb for the next one.
Crabby is looking great. I'm definitely doing this one next year.
ReplyDeleteMy DH seems to think that I can stitch with only about 1 inch of extra fabric on the sides. I don't freakin' think so. *shakes head*
Peacock Cypher is real pretty :-) Love the colours in it, but 6 inches!!! lol!!!
ReplyDeleteLoving Crabby too, will look forward to seeing it progress through the year!
..x..
Crabby is so cute!! Can't wait til Feb's stitch!
ReplyDeleteI always worry the LNS store didn't allow enough border too! Better to have too much...good scraps for small projects!
Because I enjoy following your blog...I would like to pass an award on to you...please visit my blog to receive it.

ReplyDeletelovely wip's , I love the peacock cypher
ReplyDeleteThat band sampler is really pretty!
ReplyDeletePeacock Cypher looks so good.
ReplyDeleteI love Crabby All Year. I didn't like it but you're making me want to stitch it!
Nice work you did!!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I'm obsessed too, to all kinds of creative things, but also to blogging. I love to watch all those nice blogs.
I guess when you've done you can trim the fabbie and make bookmarks, ornies and other smalls...
ReplyDeleteIt's only 4 days until February....
You've made a good progres on both pieces. I love band samplers, yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteCrabby is looking fab & I love the colours on PC.
ReplyDeleteLooks like there'll be plenty of fabric left over for lots of smalls! LOl :0)
Crabby all Year is just adorable! I hate the snow and cold!!!
ReplyDeleteThe band sampler is just so pretty!
Hi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteI've had fun reading all of your recent posts.
I also do the same thing with margins. I hate the idea of possibly running out of space! :-)
