Snowed in!

I will never wish for a white Christmas again! A blizzard snowstorm hit Oklahoma on Christmas Eve. It began in the morning with sleet that turned to snow with 45 MPH winds that cut through you like needles. I've never seen snow blowing like this before! In the city, they were closing the malls and cancelling Christmas services at churches. By the afternoon most highways were nearly impassable and those ended up being closed as well. We ended up stuck at home for Christmas day, even though my parents live less than an hour away. The highways were still closed and there was no going out.

It wasn't even a pretty snow here as the wind whipped the snow into tall drifts that left the grass still peeking out in places.

But the wind was nice enough to blow it away from the truck into drifts a couple of feet high.

It left my froggie on the front step exposed as well!

We had a nice Christmas even if it didn't go as planned. It was a good thing I had a ham in the fridge or we wouldn't even have had a Christmas dinner! Jessie, and her BF Matt, stayed the night and after Santa came we opened gifts and played like kids.

Rick looked up my wish list and bought me loads of fabric and patterns I'd been wanting! Jessie gave me this cute design book with lots of fun, snuggly animals.

Here is what was in my package from Lisa! Thank you so much Lisa, you are an angel.

Still working on Crabby. Hoping to have it finished soon. I'll be back with an update as soon as I've finished! Be prepared for major happy dancing when this occurs!

I wanted to thank you all for the merry Christmas wishes this year, you all helped make my season happy!

Thank you for visiting my blog today!

  1. So sorry that you got a Christmas blizzard...looks like Santa made it through anyway :)

I think that's the same weather system that went through here on Tue and Wed...we got about 9 inches but the roads were clear by Christmas Eve.

    Happy New Year!!!

  5. Don't let that froggy sneak in to warm up, he might not be up too no good leaving him out there exposed and all, lol

  6. Getting snowed in when you have fun plans is no fun at all. Though I imagine if it had been a work day, it would have been easier to stay home! Being from Florida, it always looks pretty to me but I realize that playing in it is different than living in it! Looks like you got some nice goodies!

  7. Yep, we got a bit of that blizzard thing going here in Norway and Sweden as well... But I ventured out with H and managed to get to my parents' house - but it took us about one hour longer than the normal 4. Lots of stops for chocolate and restrooms were in order!

Have a happy New Year and I hope the next couple of days will give you lots of opportunity to enjoy being snowed in! <3

  8. Wow you must have been a very good girl this year because the stitching gifts are amazing! Sorry Christmas was so crazy due to the blizzard but here in Maryland I was so excited to see a White Christmas. It was only the 2nd one I've ever seen in my life.

  10. It was a shame that you had to change your plans, but I would have loved snow like that, instead of the poor excuse we got!!

  13. Bummer on the snowstorm--I felt the same way about ours. While we were fine by Christmas Eve/Christmas day, it messed up our weekend and compressed all our last-minute chores. Ick.

    Lovely stash!

  17. I saw on the Weather Channel that Oklahoma was getting so much snow, Sharon, and immediately thought of you! Hopefully, the worst is over for the winter? Our snow is just about gone due to the rain that fell most of Christmas Day--yuk!

Lucky you to get so much new stash--can't wait to watch your progress in stitching it in 2010!

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

  20. I would have taken that snow! Growing up near the lake, I'm so used to having all that snow and when I married I moved away from the tons of it :(...Your husband needs to talk to mine about the stash enhancement for a present :) although I'm not complaining about my gift this year..

  24. What great gifts you received for Christmas. Those should keep you busy for a long time! And I can't believe you got all that snow. I heard that it's the most that you've ever received! Too bad that it had to happen on Christmas of all days.

  25. Wow, that was some snow storm. Glad you at least had a ham in the fridge. Scrambled eggs on Christmas Day just don't cut it.
I am really looking forward to seeing your Crabby All Year finish. I have so loved this piece as you have stitched it this past year.

  26. Well, I guess each Oklahoman has their own opinion. I was glad for the snow...at the time. Shuffling in dogs during a blizzard was hard. ugh.

It was beautiful and we were prepared. I don't ever remember a white Christmas so this was great for me.

  27. We had a white Christmas last year too. Try four feet of heavy wet snow where we normally have rain all winter!!! My 2 kids and I were "this" close to spending Christmas alone as my parents and husband were flying in from various places. It was pretty but, boy was I glad to see it melt!

  28. I know you don't want to hear this - but it looks pretty to me!
I'm glad you managed to have Christmas dinner, and perhaps New Year's will be nicer for you.

  33. Wow! Thats quite a snow storm. We hardly ever get any more than that "everythings been dusted in icing sugar" look, so I think its pretty. Sorry it messed up your plans though.
    Great presents by the way

  34. Sorry to hear about strong wind and snow in your area. I heard this news last few days ago. But I'm glad to hear that you have food for christmas eve dinner with family. :) All your gifts are so lovely! Happy new year, Sharon. :)

  35. Really sorry you got a Christmas blizzard but here in the U.K. they become paralized with 1" of snow. We are about to get more on Wednesday and last week when we got some it took us two and a half hours to do a ten minute drive. So, if it comes again staying in is what I will be doing.

    Love

  37. I am sorry the snow messed up your Christmas plans. That is a bummer. Your gifts are lovely! Merry Christmas!

  38. Glad you were safe and sound! I have to say though, from your pictures, that from a Michiganian's point of view, you hardly got a dusting! lol Guess it's all in what you are used to! We have more snow than that right now and it's been rather mild here so far. I love the change of the seasons, but I hate that I have to put my Mustang away in the winter, it's terrible on snowy roads. Happy New Year to you!
