Meet Lucas, my sexy new Brazilian companion. I know...he's short and compact, but very sweet. Lucas is a Taurus .38 special, my anniversary present from Dash. You didn't know I liked guns, did ya? Full of surprises, that's me. I know most of my readers won't be very interested in this post, but I wanted to share anyway.
I had made a passing comment to Dash that I wasn't especially confident in my ability to load and shoot the semi-automatic pistols we own, that I'd feel better with a revolver that was easy to load. He totally surprised me with this gift!
We went shooting early this morning. Bear in mind I haven't shot a pistol in years, although I am familiar with guns, having lived with a Marine for nearly 30 years.
This was my group with the .38. The pistol holds five rounds (or bullets.) Not too bad...I at least put them all into the black. The .38 takes a strong pull to shoot. Easier for me to cock the trigger, then shoot. Overall very easy to load, unload and shoot. Nice!
I also shot the Llama .380. This was my Grandfather's weapon, Dash owns it now. The 380 shoots seven rounds. The .380 has a HARD trigger pull but that is a nice group.
Then, I tried my hand at Dash's Colt .45. Holy cow, I smoked it! The .45 shoots seven rounds as well. You can see my first shot was wide because I was nervous about the recoil, then I was able to relax and center the shots. I like shooting the .45!

I only shot around fifty rounds and its obvious I need calluses. My index finger and thumb are sore from the grippy areas of the guns! Big thanks to Dash for getting me such a sweet little boyfriend.

He's a beauty! Bet you didn't know I shot guns too!! My Dad is a hunter and part of the Rod and Gun club, so I was taught to shoot targets at a young age (12 I think). Haven't gone shooting in awhile though either. How lovely of Dash to get you a sweet .38!! Oooh a Colt! My Dad has a colt and I love it :D

ReplyDeleteWhat a great post! I was around rifles (or maybe the correct term is shotguns) on my grandma's farm and learned to shoot them a little, but guns are not my thing. I thoroughly enjoyed your post, though. Your enthusiasm came through loud and clear! Happy Anniversary!
ReplyDeleteLet me tell you, there is nothing sexier than a beautiful woman with a handgun. Seriously, Daffy was not intimidated at all, no matter what caliber she shot. I was very impressed. Every woman should have the ability to defend herself. Just watch the news every evening to see what a nasty world we live in.

Funny how odd things come up on stitchy blogs. I met my husband at our local rifle and pistol club. Used to love shooting but had to give it up when the girls came along. Great aim by the way...xx

ReplyDeleteI don't shoot but my husband does. He used to work as an armored car driver a long time ago and you had to have a carry license for that and he just loved it so he still shoots as a hobby.
Good for you and your not the only one out there that shoots. I have a nice S&W 422 that I like.

Nice looking guns. You're a good shot! I wish I could handle the 38's. I've got a couple of 22's that I love dearly. I know they won't protect me, that's what my shotgun is for, but when I go out shooting I love to shoot my 22 rifle and hand gun. I think they're both Ruegers, but I'd have to ask my husband to be sure. They're both quite old as they were my dad's and he's in his 70's now. And, I think your new gun and your shot patterns make a lovely insertion to the stitchy news. There are plenty of us "gun" people out there!

We keep a shotgun up at my cottage for coyotes and such, but I actually have a compound bow, which I prefer over guns. Pretty funny to say the least when I pack one bag full of stitching, and my bow over my other shoulder!

I am pretty good at the target with the auto but uncomfortable in my home. I much prefer a revolver. I had an intruder break in and I was in such a panic that I could not think clearly. My screaming and jumping was enough to send him retreating! I can be prepared all I want, but found out that I don't think clearly in a panic!

I've been eying a Manga Girl pattern at one of the online stitch shops so I can stitch a hot chick with guns.
oh forgot to mention for my gun it really bit into my hand so my husband found a grip for it, it was really too small but he heated it up in a pot of water and it was able to cover. It's a little off center but it works and doesn't hurt as much now.

I have always wanted to try see if I could manage something to keep in the house for protection. Unfortunately hubby is not supportive about things like your husband. Nicely done! I've always been fearful of having guns in the home - first for the little one, and now fear the intruder would use it on me! Only shot others guns a few times, and have a fairly good aim, but they DO hurt the hands without continued practice!

ReplyDeleteBeing a Brit, shooting is not a common pastime. But when I was in the States in 2005 I had the opportunity to try shooting, and I really enjoyed it! Can't remember all the details, but I know I liked the revolver, didn't try the shotgun in case I bruised my shoulder 24 hours before the wedding I was attending, and I put my thumb in the wrong place when I tried the semi-automatic. So I have s shooting-related scar on my thumb (which I am ridiculously proud of...).

Hello Daffycat - although we all share different hobbies and can freely post about them, I felt I had to comment to say I was surprised at your post with the recent sadness to have hit the USA with the Cinema shootings - just a little insensitive I thought. My feelings I know but I had to say it.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are a good shot! I haven't shot since Hunter Safety class in high school (yes, I went to high school in the sticks!!) I got all my shots on the target, so I was pretty proud. =) Maybe you should go for the Olympics in Rio??!? =D
ReplyDeleteLove it! I myself shoot a Smith and Wesson M&P 40 caliber. Luckily I have never had to use it in an emergency, but my little friend sleeps right next to me on my nightstand. I believe in being prepared! I told my husband, stitching and guns...doesn't get any better than that, well, add a classic Corvette to the mix and you will cover all my bases!

ReplyDeleteAnd I live in Sweden, so even more weird being a nurse and a crafter as well as owning fire arms. BUT - we don't have them to protect ourselves, only to make noise and be at the range. Haven't been in several years though - we moved away from our pistol club and haven't found a new one. :(
