Knick Knack Paddy Whack

I swear, pets are as worrisome as small children.

So...I get home from work today after stopping for some groceries. A serious cold front is coming in tomorrow with a chance of wet weather so I sure won't want to go then. I let Molly out to pee and put the groceries away. Then I have go out to scold her for watching-herding-chasing cars along the fence instead of peeing. So she dashes over to run the fence with the neighbor dogs. She's been 9 hours without a bathroom break. I go over, tap her on top of the head as she runs by and tell her, "Go pee!" She does so we head back into the house.

"Hey! What is this all over your front legs?

Blood?

Stop, Molly! Hold still!"

I grab a gauze pad and some bandage out of the cabinet and wrap up her front paw. I can tell she is bleeding from near her dew claw but there is so much blood I can't tell how bad it is. Off we go to the vet, which is just a minute down the street from our house. Our vet is so nice! I walked in and after the receptionist took our names to pull up Molly's records she took her right in. No call, no appointment. Not ten minutes later they brought her back out...bandaged up with a supply of pain  medicine and antibiotics. There wasn't a ridiculous "emergency visit" bill either.

Somehow Molly broke off a claw in the five minutes she was outside alone. Sigh. Some day she will be an old, lazy dog!

Uhhh...I'm a Border Collie. Were you expecting easy?

Thank you for visiting my blog today!

  2. Poor baby. You .... not her. Apparently she is still just as happy and goofy as a Border Collie should be. LOL

Hope her boo boo heals up soon.

  4. Aww. You're right about our furry family members being as worrisome as small children! We have a border collie mix and she's done the same thing to her paw. Hope she heals quickly!

  8. Oh how I identify with you! Our Odin was a border/springer spaniel mix and he was a definite 'go-er'. I'm surprised Molly isn't milking that sore paw for all it's worth - Odin would have been looking for every bit of sympathy he could get.

  9. Someday. My groomer's helper asked, "how old is Buddy." I said, "I know! He's 2!" Someday. (He forgets to pee too, makes me crazy)

  16. Molly's right. You can't expect easy with a border collie. Stella has broken out with some kind of skin thing three days before we leave on vacation. She'd better be able to go to the kennel! Let's hope she's not contagious. Hope Molly heals quickly.

  18. There's nothing scarier than seeing blood on your furbaby. Shelby will be two next month and we still deal with the "puppy crazies" somedays. I keep telling myself, someday she'll settle down. I'm glad Molly's okay. Hang in there pup mom.

  19. I am in love... with your vet, none around here that has that attitude. Yes I have a border collie and oh my what they can get into. if you put them in a regular fence yard, they will figure a way out. Took us several tries to figure out how to keep ours in. Finally over 1/2 acre fenced and other dogs to play with and he has quit getting out ...well for the most part. :o} Escape artist and too clever for their own good, but they are such loveable sweethearts. Good luck with Mollie

  25. You're such a good doggy mommy! You're right that they're just like little ones; they have four paws that they can get into trouble with, so they can move twice as fast!
Hope Molly feels better soon. :)
