Finally! This one took long enough. Admittedly, I dawdled. I blame the holidays. Work. Nice weather. Bad weather. Home. Boredom. Too much excitement. Laziness.
Actually...I have no excuse. I just felt like dawdling.

When I finally finished that one I pulled out a UFO from last summer and went back to work on it. This one was fun but I had trouble with the white. I used 712 in the hat...it was fine, banded with red it showed up great but when I started the sparkles they blended in with the fabric! Whoops! So I frogged the bit of fireworks I had done and went with bright-white B5200. This still needs buttons added. It comes with a teeny Liberty Bell charm but I think I will use some star-shaped buttons instead.

Both of these are destined to become holiday decorations, either pillows or ornaments. What am I'm starting next? Perhaps a Blackbird Designs pinpillow. I have it kitted up but I feel like dawdling. *sigh*

I have a "thing" about banana peels. Yes, banana peels.
They creep me out.
I'm not talking about peels in the trash or prank-left-on-the-floor-to-slip-on peels but touching the peel while I'm eating a banana. Peel it down a few inches and munch away? Not me.
I. Can. Not.
I have to peel the entire banana, being careful not to touch the inside, set the edible part down on a napkin, toss the peel, wash my hands, then I can eat the banana. I eat only naked bananas.
I am unaware of when this phobia started but since it doesn't really affect any part of my life (except needing a sink when I eat long yellow fruit) it's just become one of those things I find rather funny about myself.

Congrats on your finish. Loved the naked banana story. I am like that about grocery shopping. I must go down every lane the same way each time no matter how much I need to buy. If I deviate I panic and feel disoriented.

Love both of your finishes! Lol, at your banana peel phobia. I have a problem with those awful stringy things you get when peeling a banana! They have to be completely gone before I'll eat it!

Cute finish... Me it's tomato's... ahhhh... can't explain the irrational hatred. I even tell people I'm allergic yet I will eat a tomato based pizza. I'm sure it't the whole squishy, juice going everywhere argh.

I love your finishes and yes the stars will look great on the 4th of July piece. Not wanting to touch a banana peel is not that bad I can not eat bananas that have brown spots on the peel, I know they are best when the spots appear but mushie bananas make me want to gag.

ReplyDelete4th of July looks great. Working with white on light fabrics is tough. I just finished something with snowman on it and spent quite a bit of time digging through my stash for just the fabric.
Bananas, i eat them daily as they are my favorite. As for me, no peel phobia here...Actually, sometimes I eat the peel....No, no, I am just kidding. Your story made me laugh.

ReplyDeleteGreat finishes! That is so funny about the bananas. I can't eat eggs if you can see that it is an egg (ie the white and yolk separate), this means I can eat an omlette but not a Cadbury's Creme Egg

ReplyDeleteI guess we all have eccentricities. I lost my taste for bananas in the last couple of years after a lifetime of eating one every day. I've only recently been able to eat an occasional one and not find it unpleasant. Hoping I'll return to banana normalcy soon.

Fantastic finishes! I have a banana issue, too; I always have to peel all of those little stringy things off and I refuse to eat the bottom inch of the banana. Not the top inch, just the bottom inch!

ReplyDeleteLove the projects. I think I have you beat with the banana thing. I strip off one peel section and then pout it down and use my banana slicer to cut nice neat rounds before I eat them...sometimes with a fork! As for taking time with a project, whatever works.

ReplyDeleteThat is quite interesting about you and bananas! I'm not much of a banana person. Only eat them sometimes, no spots preferred. I do like banana bread and muffins though. We usually feed the peels to our worm farm, they love them!

ReplyDeleteBut loved the banana story...my food phobia is yellow candy. Doesn't matter the flavor, if it's yellow, I won't eat it, not even yellow M&M's. I don't remember when that started either! I will eat candy corn, but only after I cut the yellow bottoms off (and make sure there is no lingering yellow on the orange).

I remember the way my stomach felt when I put one of those long, green hairy green beans in my mouth. I like green beans now; I think that they might have been genetically modified because they don't have hair anymore.

ReplyDeleteCute finishes Sharon! I have a thing with the banana strings but I like bananas. I peel them from the bottom because it's easier for me to eat them that way plus it gives you a little stem to hold onto.
