This WIP hasn't seen the light of day since 2012. It somehow awoke and started calling out every now and then. I finally dug it out just to get it to shut up! In the course of searching for the safe place I put it I may have awoken a few other WIPs as well...
Here is Finery of Nature with a few more stitches added:
Three years ago I was using the lightbox to stitch this. I need to get it out again. This black fabric is a booger to see. The lightbox is on the shelf in the basement. I'm just too tired to go downstairs and get it!
Do your old WIPs wake up and cry or am I the only one haunted this way? Do you even have any neglected WIPs? I think for most of us that might be a silly question! Why not dig through them and see if one wakes up? Then you can post about it and show us!

ReplyDeleteSince the beginning of 2015, I have been stitching my way through what I refer to as the 'Bin O'Shame'. This bin contains all of the WIPs, UFOs and stitching orphans that I have in my collection. When I started in February 2015, I had a total of 89. I whittled out more than a few for one reason or another. After that exercise, it left me with 75. My goal was to finish the stitching on a minimum of 25 of these projects throughout the year.
I hit the 25 mark in July of that year and by the end of the year, I had finished the stitching on 36 of these abandoned projects. This left 34 to be stitched, beginning in 2016.
This years' goal is to stitch 12 more of these, one for every month of the calendar year. I hit 6 projects this month, and couldn't be happier. It is so, so nice to have all of these wrapped up and out of that bin. I highly encourage anyone who has UFOs to get them out and stitch them up. It's been a very rewarding journey! :)
Wow! That's a beautiful piece! I'm surprised it "stayed quiet" for as long as it did! lol! I tried stitching on black once... yes, definitely a booger! ;-) I try to keep WIP's to a minimum... but, there is always a variety of projects on-going... one quilt, one hooked rug, one wool applique, one cross stitch.... that's how I can avoid calling them WIP's! lol!

How pretty your WIP is. My eyes do not enjoy stitching on black fabric but I love how stitching looks on it.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, they're very pretty to look at but a pain in the @ss to stitch. I stitched a flower bell-pull in 2008, and I swore I'd never touch black fabric again. As for long forgotten WIPs, yes they constantly whimper and cry for attention; but I close my eyes and stuff my fingers in my ears and say La-La-La very loudly until they go quiet again.

ReplyDeleteIt is gorgeous!! Do you have an Ipad? I have heard a few people say they use it when they are stitching on black fabric. May save you from having to haul the light box out :)

Holy crow! I have this same project, I am pretty sure. It is OLD. And untouched for over 15 years, thanks to that black fabric. But, it will look good when it's done!
ReplyDeleteIt's such a lovely piece. Black (or navy) is terrible to work on, but the results are always gorgeous and this one is not going to be an exception. I have one I need to get back to - Spirit of the Salmon.

This is gorgeous on the black. I love stitching on dark fabrics. Because I have to hold everything two inches from my eyes it really doesn't matter what colour or count it is!

ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful! Oh yes, I have UFOs. One went the way of the bin, due due to rust. Most are over 20 years old, and I doubt I will ever get back to them. Fortunately I think I have less than 5 of these.
