It's already time for the Totally Useless Stitch A Long? It's the New Moon so I guess so! I have added a few ORTs to my jar but with all the "free" time I have now, I feel it isn't very much.
Yes, The Finery of Nature came out to play. The black fabric is so hard on my eyes it's slow going. If this had been worked on light colored fabric it would have been finished long ago!
Design ~ Pumpkin Flower Sampler
Designer ~ Bent Creek
Fabric ~ 28 count unknown evenweave
Fiber ~ called for Gentle Arts & DMC
I did finish the Bent Creek a couple weeks ago. The camera wouldn't capture the colors except in this odd angle photo. I don't like the "sampler" stitches that go between the letters in these BC sampler designs so I leave them out. Is that weird? It just looks cluttered and crowded with them to me. I have no thoughts on a finish-finish for this one.
I have been trying to come up with a schedule for myself since becoming a Lady of Leisure but have been unable to set one. I keep losing track of the days! I am a little out of sorts as yet, getting used to not having to wake up at 3 or 4 in the morning, not having to be anywhere by a certain time...the entire unstructured chaos of it has me in limbo and I can get nothing done! Where is my order? I need to find it soon!
=^..^=
Now it is YOUR turn...we want to see your ORTs! Leave a comment on this post with a link to your September TUSAL post so we can come visit! If I hold a Totally Useless giveaway your comment will earn you an extra entry.

The more time I have on my hands, the more time I fritter away - I think when we work with routine it keeps us on track - at least I know it does with me. Hopefully you will settle into a new routine soon.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read this post of yours, some homeschooling blogs come to my mind. hey tell, that when they drop school in favour of homeschooling, a transitional period - they call it "deschooling" - has to pass before learning takes place again. I bet you're in the process of de-working.
ReplyDeleteI understand your not instespersing the rows of letters with sampler stitches. That sounds cluttered and like the person making the pattern suffered from horror vacui. I too love air and space aruind the objects.
My time flies as well, and my time is not always spent doing something fiber-y, as can be seen in my blog post here:
TUSAL - September
The Pumpkin Sampler looks good and I like it without the rows of sampler stitches.
ReplyDeleteGive yourself a bit more time on the unstructured chaos. I found 'scheduling' chores and/or errands for specific days helped provide routine and structure, but loose enough to go out for lunch or coffee with friends.
Nature's Finery is so so pretty!! I love it more and more every time you stitch on it. And I love the colors in your Pumpkin Flower Sampler. Lady of Leisure! I love it! Enjoy your days of doing nothing :)
ReplyDeleteHere are my orts http://cross-stitching-mama.blogspot.ca/2017/09/september-tusal.html
Nature's Finery is beautiful, it's going to be a stunning piece!
ReplyDeleteThe colours on the black fabric are gorgeous! I love the effect of stitching on black.
ReplyDeleteMy schedule for non working days is:
1.emails
2.chores
3.lunch
4.stitching
5.tea
6.blogs
I like a timetable!
Here are my ORTS - http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/swamp-troll-tusal.html
Nature's Finery is such a lovely pattern I know you will enjoy. Getting into a habit or schedule sometimes is hard but you will get there. Enjoy your down days. RJ@stitchingfriendsforever
ReplyDeleteI do admire those that stitch on black fabric, the colours of this do pop.
ReplyDeleteNature's Finery looks marvelous - the colors are so crisp and sharp on the black fabric, and you are quite brave to be stitching on it, imo!
ReplyDeleteYou will certainly find or create structure in your days, but you may still be unwinding.
My September orts are HERE.
How nice to see Nature's Finery again--I absolute love watching this one grow, Sharon! And what a cute BC finish, too :)
ReplyDeleteI'll be joining you as a "Lady of Leisure" after next week, too. It is so hard for me to believe I'll be retiring and I am very sad, but at the same time, I'm ready. It is going to be a huge transition, but most of my good friends from the library have already retired so that makes things easier. I am so worried about wasting time--I think I'm going to have a set schedule as I've always done better when my day is planned out :)
Anyway! Enjoy your extra stitching time and this first weekend of fall...
Here is my TUSAL blog post. I am so sorry everyone but I was not feeling well with my M.S. yesterday so I couldn't post. At least I got the pic taken on time. LOL

Nature's Finery looks stunning on the black - I can't wait to see it finished!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will soon be restructured and organized again. It just takes a while to get used to the chaos, lol. No, seriously, when I retired there was such a lot of things I wanted to do during the day that not much was done in the end. But after a while I got more organized and it was just the way I wanted it to be - not too much structure but just enough to get things done. A nice balance.
ReplyDeleteOh my, this piece on the black fabric looks awesome. I have never stitched on black fabric, just on dark blue one. But it isn't too difficult with my magnifier lamp. The Bent Creek finish is really lovely. How about making a little bell pull kind of finishing?
I find it difficult to stitch on any darker fabric lately. I love the way all of the colors pop on the black though.
ReplyDeleteEveryone I know that has become a lady of leisure says that I now don't know how they ever found the time to work
ReplyDeleteMy ort report is up at last http://purplepds.blogspot.co.uk/2017/09/late-tusal-once-more.html
Oh wow, The Finery of Nature is just stunning... I know black fabric is hard work, but it'll be so worth it!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you'll get a routine figured out for yourself soon and then find that there still aren't enough hours in the day :)
The Finery of Nature is a beautiful piece, I'm sure it will be well worth all of your hard work! I'm the same, I only function when there is plenty to do and plenty of structure :)
