I shouldn't be stitching! I should be finishing! I've been bringing up some cross stitch things from storage in the basement. Things like fabric and finishing stuff and patterns. Things I used to have to trek downstairs for so rarely ever bothered. Then I came across my pile of things needing finishing. Oooo, what a guilty secret I had hidden away!
Whoa! I brought it all upstairs and gave it it's own box. Finish after finish ~ just waiting to be finished! A rough count gave me more than 60 objects, probably closer to 70!
There's Halloween, Christmas, Spring, Autumn, Fourth of July, big stuff, tiny things and even some daffy cats. I've been an awesome stitcher but a lousy finisher! Maybe having the box waiting here, staring at me will help? Let's find out!

Oh far too gorgeous to not finish. I still have my rather large Cornwall Cottage piece sitting in a corner but as soon as the light gets brighter I'll go back to it(that's my excuse).

ReplyDeleteWow. I feel really good about having less than 10 to complete! But look how organized you are. Looks like many of them can be sewn close to stitching for seasonal ornaments on a twiggy tree. Wherever they end up, great smalls for display.

I have a few of these, too, but I don't consider them unfinished - they're just waiting for the right finish for the right occasion. :) It's wonderful to have some minis stitched and ready to be made into a card for any occasion. You have some beauties there.
ReplyDeleteI get a few pieces framed each year, but I have hundreds and I do mean hundreds of unfinished pieces. I'm a terrible finisher, but I get such joy out of stitching that I really do not care if they're ever finished or not.

I love going in my craft room and finding lots of cross stitch things that were in a box I had not seen for years .
I have also hundreds of projects waiting to be finished. I become so excited with the new projects that I always forget about the previous.....

Wow! You certainly have a lot of unfinished finishes! I don't think I even have that many patterns in my stash? lol! In the waiting to be finished pile I have 3 quilt tops, 3 cross stitches and 3 needle punched pieces. I haven't updated my blog in a month (or so)...hopefully I'll be able to before the weekend arrives...
ReplyDeleteA lovely selection you 'found' waiting for some attention. I don't have any smalls that need finish but quite a few bigger projects that need something doing with them. You can only have so many frames on the wall!

I am not a finish-finisher. My mom is my finisher so I am putting all the blame on her :) She has been a seamstress for as long as I can remember and does a better job than I can ever dream of doing. But she is quite busy with customers sewing so my finishes sit on the back burner until she has the time and I am quite ok with that :)

I'm at the same point where I had put things away and forgotten about them. I'm hoping to stitch more from stash this year and 'finish-finish' what is done and waiting. I would take it seasonally ~ think about how much fun it will be to decorate for July with all of those patriotic smalls you have!
ReplyDeleteOh no...I am in the same boat as you! I have so many small things to finish and larger things to frame or do something with...it's really sad. I even bought a new sewing machine before Christmas last year because I had such good intentions...it's still in the box. If you can do this, I will try too...good luck!

ReplyDeleteI am always intimidated by finishing, so I pick up only patterns that I can convert to framed pictures. These I can easily get framed from the store!! Now how many can I frame and put up.. so I have to face my fear sometime soon
I have a stack of things to 'finish' after stitching. I hate it. I'm terrible at it. and...it costs too much to pay someone else to do it for me.

I have a handful of big projects that I cycle through to get toward completion. The two oldest though are over 15 years but I'm still plugging away at them.

When it comes to smalls, I'm pretty good about finishing them. I haven't stitched many of them and I'm a slow stitcher so that helps! I'm sure you'll make great progress, you are a seasoned finisher, and have some new lovelies pretty soon.
ReplyDeleteWHOAH!!!! Just look at all those finishes that are screaming for finishings! Since I'm such a OAATer, I usually finish and frame as I go. I have to admit that if I don't have a place of something, then I don't feel like stitching. :S

ReplyDeleteI also have such a tub, haha, or should I say tubs? I have no idea how many finished but not completed items I keep in them. And I won't count, lol. Sometimes I wish I would be better and turn all my finished items into something once they are stitched, sigh.
ReplyDeleteI have a small-ish container with pieces that need to be finished into pillows, ornaments, needle-rolls, bell-pulls, etc. and one that needs to be framed. I only have about 15-20 tops.

This post made me laugh! I tend to finish quite quickly afterwards, there is never more than one or two waiting to be done.I think this is because I also quilt so I ten dot finish them off while I have the machine out anyway. x
ReplyDeleteI'm exactly the same, a lousy finisher! I always think how I'm going to finish a project when I start it, but I never seem to get round to actually doing anything about them. It is one of my goals this year to get a few more pieces on display though, I need to brush up on my finishing skills :)
