My Stacy Nash Primitives is finished! Can you call this Netty's Sampler Pinkeep when I changed so much?
I could live with the missing "J" but the OCD in me HAD to finish the alphabet. Thankfully the design lent itself to the intuitive charting of the missing letters. Since I didn't stitch Netty's name I didn't use her initials or date. Now, I've chickened out at trying my hand at finishing the drum! I can do it...I know it. I must first complete it in my imagination several times before I can make an attempt. Does that make sense?
Because I'm playing chicken, I cleaned up the studio and brought out another unfinished project. Surprise! It's the Dresden Plate quilt!
The blocks are all ready to be sewn together. Gosh, these are giant blocks! Once I have the body together, I can figure out a border. If it needs a border? See? This is why it's sat unfinished...

ReplyDeleteAfter years of quilting and increasingly disliking it I have come to figure out why I was learning to hate quilting -- borders and bindings. So, I no longer do borders and instead of binding I just add a facing and turn it under and stitch it down. I have made a couple of things this way and much prefer it. I like your quilt with the big blocks!
ReplyDeleteI love the dresden quilt. I wouldn't border it, I would just finish it with a binding as I am all for simple and sometime it is more important to finish something and let it be. x

ReplyDeleteVonna has a great video tutorial on making a drum. I've only made one and mine is kind of lumpy but that was before I saw her video - I'm going to try it again one of these days.

Vonna rocks. I was even able to make a drum that actually is worth displaying - so you can do it too. Love love love the Dresden. No border. Let it speak on its own cuz it’s makin a statement. It’s saying Charlene’s bedroom decor needs this quilt - ha ha!

Thedresden plate quilt is already a great size. JUST DO I and get it finished. I'm sure upyou are quite capable of stitching the drum.GO FOR IT.
