She Said What?

A list of words or terms commonly used by me in case you are wondering, "What the heck is going on in this blog and what is she talking about?"

BAP ~ Stands for Big Ass Project.

Exchange ~ Exactly what it sounds like: two stitchers exchange something. Sometimes these are organized events with lots of participants, usually this type is a secret-pal where no one knows knows who their partner is. Sometimes two stitchers get together for a private exchange.

Freebie ~ Refers to a cross stitch (or other craft) design or pattern given away for free.

Frog or frogging ~ The bane of all stitchers! Frogs are misplaced stitches that must be ripped out. This is a play-on-words of the sound a frog makes - "Rip-it, rip-it!"

Giveaway ~ This is an item "up for grabs" to interested parties. Sort of a contest by random drawing. On blogs, the author lists the item to give away with the rules of the game and anyone that would like a chance leaves a comment. At a set time the giveaway is "closed" and a winner is drawn and announced.

Hidden Giveaway ~ On my blog I will sometimes create a post containing a stitched item. People will leave comments on the post. After a few days I draw a name from those comments and give that person the item. This is a hidden giveaway. I do hidden giveaways as a thank you for those that leave comments. By all means if you like something I stitched, leave a comment, it might be a hidden giveaway post. On the other hand, if you think it's horrid maybe you better not say so ~ it might end up yours!

LNS ~ Stands for Local Needlework Store, a shop nearby.

ONS ~ Stands for Online Needlework Store.

ORT or ort ~ Capitalized, it stands for Old Ratty Threads. These are the cast-off thread ends a needleworker cuts away. These ends are often saved in clear jars as a decorative object. This word, "ort" does appear in the dictionary, meaning: a bit of something left over; usually concerning food.

RAK ~ Stands for Random Act of Kindness. Not to be confused with a giveaway! An RAK is a gift sent to someone "just because." Usually, RAKs are sent in secret as a surprise for the recipient.

SABLE ~ Stands for Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy. This means you have more craft stuff than you could ever hope to use before you pass on.

S.E.X. ~ Stands for Stash Enhancement eXperience. You've been stash shopping.

Stash ~ Craft stuff. We usually "stash" this in our supply cabinets.

Stitchass ~ also known as "Numb bum." This is the soreness acquired from sitting and stitching for a long time. A desirable condition. Note: stitchers that come down with stitchass often get needle-fingers as well.

TUSAL ~ Stands for Totally Useless Stitch A Long. This is a blog game where members post a photo of their ORT jars on the New Moon of every month. Originated by a blogger called Yoyo. Currently hosted by Daffycat.

UFO ~ Stands for UnFinished Object. This is a project started but not completed. Usually has the connotation of a project not being worked on.

WIP ~ Stands for Work In Progress. This is a project that is actively being worked on.

If you know of a term that needs to be listed here please email me at: daffy-cat At hotmail DOT com ~ thanks!
