Stitching Time

After several glorious hours of uninterrupted stitching time I was able to finish my exchange project. Then, I made a good start into my February Snapper. This will go quickly now.

I had a few questions about how I manage all the scads of fabric for this project. 52 inches of fabric is quite a handful! First off, I stitch in hand. And I stitch on a desk top with the fabric resting on the desk. When it is a "regular" project I'll roll the top and fold the bottom. Since this one is "long" I'm rolling the left and folding the right. If I'd thought about it, I would have started stitching "sideways" so I could have my roll & fold the same as usual. But hindsight, you know? I wonder how easy it is going to be stitching December with that big fat roll on the left?

There is a brand-spanking-new blogger on the block! Please, go meet Patti of Any Day Spent Stitching is a Good Day. She is really nice! Patti, would you please add the date stamp to your posts...that way we know how behind we are when we visit. Plus, I'm up for seeing photos of your Reggie sometime!

  5. Looks great! I commend you for doing it that way- I stitch in hand alot but couldn't handle a large piece like that. While working on my stitcher's alphabet I have to use q-snaps!

  6. I stitch in hand but my fabric ends up looking crinkled. I just started rolling what I hold in my hand and it helps a lot. I like to stitch in a chair in front of the tv...I had not thought of sitting at a desk.

  12. 52 inches! That's a whole lot of fabric, but it looks like you've figured out a good way to manage it. Great start on February!

  19. I'm stitching Christmas at HRH in hand, too, Sharon. Still struggling with the sheer size of the fabric, but I'm slowly getting used to it.

Your February snapper is off to a great start!

  26. When I stitched in hand, I did the same thing as you when I had big projects (which was most of the time), but then I went to the dark side and use scroll rods. I don't think that I stitch as fast though!

  29. Coming along nicely, Sharon! I really like these snappers so I'll be watching your progress!

  30. Uninterrupted stitching time is the best!! Your February snapper is looking fabulous! I stitch in hand too mostly. Every now and then I will go back to my qsnaps, but I can stitch in hand so much faster. I am going to have to try rolling my fabric like you do. Less wrinkles. :)

  31. YAY for stitching time!!!! Can you stitch with the fabric upside down? That would mean the roll was on the correct side for you.

  32. Look at you! Antoher year long stitching project!

  33. There's nothing bettert than unlimited stitching time. You made good use of it. Looking forward to seeing your exchnage piece.
I wish you all the best of luck for the new position in your job. You will soon have adjusted to getting up so early in the morning. Although I have to admit that 4.30 is really early ...

  37. I've never worked on a piece of fabric so big but I saw another stitcher do something interesting. She rolled her fabric and then was using a hair clip to hold it in place. You know the ones that will hold a ponytail? I'd be afraid that it would mark the fabric from the teeth but she says she hasn't had any problems.

  38. Love your start on Snappers! I have all the fabric and threads but am afraid to start!
