Fetch The Brain

Border Collies are funny dogs. Most collies I know love to play fetch. I remember teaching Sheba to fetch. She took a long time to learn! She would run to get the tennis ball quick enough ~ it was the bringing it back part that took awhile. Once she got it though, she was hooked. She would fetch a tennis ball until your arm fell off. But only a tennis ball. Sometimes, to gauge your interest in playing, she would bring you some other toy but if you threw it she would bring you back a tennis ball! Sneaky huh?

Molly picked up fetch right off. She doesn't care one whit what she fetches either. Any toy is fair game! Here are only a few of the toys she has brought me over the weekend to throw:

From top left,  a sea monster, a giant bone (I can't throw this!), a rubber boot, a tennis ball, a chicken, an orange rope, a sad alligator, a starfish, a hamburger, a ginormous tire (I AM NOT THROWING THAT - GO GET SOMETHING ELSE), a stuffed happy ball and we don't know what that thing at the bottom is so we call it a brain. The sea monster and brain seem to be her favorite. Mine too because they have sticky-outy things I can pinch on to pick up and I don't get too very slobbery.

Hi Mom! I brought you an elephant! Wanna play fetch?

What are you doing with your phone? I said I brought you an elephant!

Aren't you going to throw it? I could go get the brain...

What are your pet's favorite things to do?

Thank you for visiting my blog today!

  1. Molly is a cutie! Max has an assortment of preferred toys and we haven't quite figured out his favorite(s) yet. When we are outside, bugs and spider webs are his favorites.

  4. This post made me laugh!! Part of what was so funny was that you can actually take photos of your dogs toys.... If I did this, it would be a 'before and after' shot.

Toys, regardless of how much money we spend of them, simply don't last in this house. Our dogs love fetch, but they love to chew and destroy also lol

  5. My border collie (12) loves to swim and fetch ball

  6. My retriever is addicted to fetch. Our new foster puppy- a lab we think- loves the flat critters that have no stuffing. Kong toys seem to last the longest with my big dogs that kill most toys in a day. Molly is a real sweetheart.

  7. How sweet. Our cats seem to enjoy fetching us dead things, if one of them decided to play fetch the brain I fear it may turn out to be a real one!

  8. What a bright and clever lady you have.
My cats favourite pastime is to jump up and sit on the newspaper or magazine you are at present reading so he can get a scratch and fur rub

  9. Biskey will play fetch with a pipe cleaner. Sadly Biskey is one of our 'not quite normal' cats.

    It is quite funny though!

  10. My cats love their toys to. They also hang out in the kitchen begging for treats... really very similar to having a dog. I have never bought so many toys for a pet....they sometimes show up in my bed when someone feels that they need to be played with :)

  11. aww Molly! Henry's favorite pastime is curling up on your lap. He is there right now as I type. ;) Mabel loves to beg for treats, bones, whatever!

  13. One of my dogs loves to play fetch with his squeaky balls. One of my dogs doesn't know what to do with toys. He prefers rawhide chewing to playing.

  14. Oh, Molly is so cute. She has a very sweet face. I had to laugh at your Sheba story with the tennis ball.

My neighbour used to have a Border Collie too and we loved that dog. When we were in the garden sometimes he would bring his tennis ball over to play for awhile. Then when you said "ok, that's it for today" he would trot back to his house. I still miss him.

  15. What cute pics of Molly. My dogs are stupid. You throw something they go pick it up and run the other directions. If we have a treat and say speak - they sit and lick their lips.

  17. Molly is so lovely!

When Missy, our cat, was young she loved to play with ping pong balls and pieces of paper tied to the end of string. She will occasionally play with the latter now, but not very often. What she does love to do is chase small biscuit treats that are thrown, one at a time, onto the deck. She often intercepts them in mid air, only to have them bounce off her paws causing her to chase after them. Sometimes they bounce in a direction she doesn't expect and she has to sniff around for some time to find them.

  18. Molly is sooo precious! When you pet my dog B.J. (a Boston terrier) going from his head down his back, and you lift your hand to go back up to his head, he puts his ears down to the side in preparation for your hand. It makes it so hard to stop petting him! And if you don't pet him again quickly enough, he looks back at you with his ears still down. I have spent so many hours on the floor petting him because he makes you feel so guilty when you stop!
Also, my bed is level with the windowsill in my room and is up against that wall, so he always jumps up and paws at the blinds until I open them, so he can lie down on the bed while looking out the window. Livin' the life of luxury.

  21. When we first got Stella we were in the yard throwing balls and yelling fetch with her looking at us like we were idiots. Then one day I threw a stick and she bounded over picked it up and brought it back. She knew fetch but we were throwing the wrong thing! One day at the dog park I kicked a soccer ball. She went after it like it was the best thing ever. She will only chase it if I kick it though. So particular!

  26. Too FUNNY! Our first lab, Murphy was the typical lab tennis ball fiend. But, he loved sticks too. You'd throw a nice stick and he'd bring back a BIGGER one! He drug a branch back once.

Current Lab, Miss Maddie was sleeping when they passed out the fetch gene. Or she may have been in line again for the food gene, not sure.

  28. I love the look of anticipation in her face when she brings you the elephant!

My Miss Maddie is a labrador retriever. She will chase the ball once, maybe twice - that is it!! I think she missed the retrieve lane and stood in the food line twice!
