May I Borrow a Cup of Sugar?

I made really good progress on Merry Sunshine yesterday at my Dad's house. My mom was occupied with the nurse assistant for her shower and dad spent a lot of time clipping bushes so I got the left side of the (swoon) big purple dress outlined.

I will work on getting the right side done and the lacey bottom hem filled in, then it will be easy-peasy fill-in stitches. You know how I love zen stitching!

Now, about that cup of sugar...

For the past month, I've been putting out about four cups of nectar every day for these little beepers. Can you see, there are six hummingbirds on this nearly empty feeder? This is right outside the window over my kitchen sink. I've never had so many hummingbirds! I've tried counting but can only get around ten or twelve before I lose track of who got counted...they just zip around too much! They are so much fun and I will miss them when they go south in a few weeks.

Thank you for visiting my blog today!

  1. You are so lucky to have so many hummingbirds at this time of year. The birds here are starting to flock up to migrate soon and friends have been reporting that they are not seeing hummingbirds at their feeders these days.

  2. Merry is looking great.
We have a lot of Hummies this year too.
It's fun to watch them chase & play.
    They are just so cute!

  3. Our hummingbirds are still coming around in droves! We've been going through a lot of sugar too. A couple of years ago there was this big(for a hummingbird)guy who would scare all of the others off. He'd just sit there and drink. We called him Tony Soprano.

  5. Good progress on the purple dress! Love your hummingbird picture! Up until last week, we had been going through 10+ pounds of sugar weekly. It has slowed down at the moment. They are so much fun to watch.

  6. Looking good! That dress is going to take awhile.
We get a few hummingbirds around one of the bushes in the front flowerbed (right by the window) but I haven't put up a new feeder since we moved here. Maybe I'll get one for next year.

We have not had any hummers the last year or so. I just love them. xo Diana

  9. I just love Merry Sunshine and her big purple dress! I feed the hummingbirds and birds too. It is so nice to be able to look out the window and see them all happily chirping and eating the day away.

  10. There is always a hummingbird boom at my house this time of year. The little pigs with wings go through so much food it's crazy. We had 24 of them one year. I think we're on a migration route, but not sure.

  12. That is one giant dress! At least it is stitched in such a pretty color--can you imagine if it was some dull color?!

We didn't feed the hummers this year as we were away so much of the summer. I really missed them, though, and hope to lure them back next summer with fresh sugar water :)
