New Stash and Old Stash

I went and spent a good bit of my piggy bank savings money on some fat quarters, a bit of Christmas yardage, clearance buttons and a roll of patriotic trim.

I was frugal and still have money left over though!

Nothing was tickling my fancy in the cross stitch pile that's labeled "want to stitch" so I dug through my stash and unearthed this great Trilogy kit called Frightfully Fun. It comes with fabric, a 32 count Natural Belfast Linen, Week's threads, and JABCO button. I seldom stitch with overdyed threads so I'm having fun with the changeup.

The Dresden blocks are now sewn together and waiting for borders to be created.

Lastly, Miss Molly hasn't been featured in a while. We've been spending a lot of time with the undercoat rake, covering the neighborhood in dog hair. Adorably gap-toothed.

Piggy Bank Challenge

Val reminded me it was time to count our Piggy Bank Challenge savings. My jar wasn't nearly as full as it was last time. I was working then and was out spending money more often! At least I remembered to take a picture before I emptied it this time:

My jar sits on top of my embroidery floss cabinet where I can see it every day. Once I emptied it, I took the change to our credit union and they gave me dollars for it:

Grand total was :
$145.74
two Canadian dimes
one car wash token

The teller that cashed me out kindly donated a penny to round me up to 75 cents...which is now back in the jar for next year.

Wow, I have $145 to spend on my hobbies! I'm going to buy fabric! You can join in for next year! Val will be posting a sign up today on her blog: Val's Quilting Studio.

How much could you save?

Piggy Bank Challenge

Val let me know last week it was time to cash in our savings for the Piggy Bank Challenge. We were supposed to post our results on the 6th, I think. Of course, I am late! I did send Dash off to the bank with my coin and he brought back this:

$233.93

Wow! Then I realized I was missing this:

The four Quarters I had taken out of my jar to help me measure my presser bar height on my 301. Whoops! So my actual total is:

$234.93

Not bad at all for spare change! I haven't decided what to buy. Fabric? Another vintage machine? Patterns? The choices...there are so many!

I tossed my coins back into my jar to start saving again...

Please visit Val's blog to join in on the fun! Sign-ups start on 13 July. How much can you save to spend (guilt-free) on your hobby?

ORT Fest

Yesterday was the New Moon! Do you have your ORTs all polished up for inspection? I kept having to stuff mine flatter in the wooden leaf bowl. Especially when adding in those little clipped dog ear corners. I find dog ear confetti all over the house! Always a party around here! Here is my stuffed bowl sitting atop En Provence, which is waiting impatiently to be put together:

I also had another container to show you. Remember my Cash for Stash can for the Piggy Bank Challenge? I'm afraid that can was too small. When it got too full to add any coins I had to come up with a new plan. I found this great wine bottle and my friend, Lauren designed and cut vinyl lettering with her Cricut machine.

Isn't that totally awesome? Now I have lots more room for coin saving. On July 6th we empty our banks and report how much we saved to buy guilt free stash with.

 =^..^=

Now it is YOUR turn...we want to see your ORTs! Leave a comment on this post with a link to your January TUSAL post so we can come visit! If I hold a Totally Useless giveaway your comment will earn you an extra entry.

Wondering what a TUSAL is and why all these people are posting pictures of rubbish? Click here to learn more and join the fun!

Piggy Bank Challenge

My new blog friend Val from Val's Quilting Studio has an annual challenge to save money for stash. Every year you can sign up, save your piggy bank money and the next year you count the cash you saved and post about it. Guilt free stash money! Here is what I am going to save my money in:

This little "paint can" coin bank came home with Dash from work with cookies in. A little redecorating with colored paper and voila!

I will spend my "hard earned" dollars on more fabric as my newbie quilter status stash is pretty sad!
