Thread Keeper

Our sweet Mouse celebrated her blogoversary with giveaway prizes and I was one of the very lucky winners! Just look what arrived in my mailbox:

Mouse (knowing how much I love my ORTs) stitched this lovely design and sewed it into a fabric bowl thread keeper for me. I opened it up so you could see. I also received these great finishing goodies and a pretty piece of pale purple fabric.

Thank you, Mouse! Happy blogoversary and wishing you many more to come!

Pumpkins for Cathey

Happy Pumpkin Day!

Decoupage Pumpkins
Pumpkin Day? What is that you ask? It's Cathey's, AKA Pumpkin Patch & Co's blogoversary.

Mini Crochet Pumpkins

Happy blogoversary, Cathey! Surprise!

Paper Pumpkins

Why am I celebrating Cathey's blogoversary in such a public way? And why on Earth are all these "Pumpkins for Cathey" posts appearing all over needlework blogland? It's my fault! You see, Cathey has cancer and sometimes she gets really upset because she has so much to live for and this cancer just keeps coming up with something else and something else again.

Fall Fabric Pumpkins

I wanted Cathey to know we are rooting for her. I wanted her to know we love her and how much we care. So I sat down one day and emailed everyone I knew and even people I didn't know, "Let's surprise Cathey on her blogoversary!"

Popcorn Ball Pumpkins

And here we are.

Duct Tape Pumpkins

Cathey, this is for you! I had so many of our fellow bloggers respond to my, "Let's surprise Cathey!" plea with an, "OMG, yes, let's do it!" I was totally flabbergasted how many responded. Most of the people commenting here will be leaving a link to their own "Pumpkins for Cathey" post.

Cathey, I hope you know how very much you are cherished.

xoxoxox

If you posted a "Pumpkins for Cathey" picture on your blog please leave a link to that post in the comments.

If you never received the email about this event and would like to show your support for Cathey in her fight against cancer, you can post a pumpkin photo on your blog and title the post "Pumpkins for Cathey." Linking to this post and to Cathey's blog would be nice as well. Be sure to come back here and leave a comment so Cathey can find your post when she feels up to it.

The captions under each photo here are links to tutorials to make each pumpkin shown. Have fun!

Presents

I got presents! We are having a very quiet Christmas this year. With Sheba being ill and so many vet bills we agreed to not go crazy this year. So I wasn't expecting any presents. Then I picked up the mail ~

From Myra came this lovely threadcatcher. This will be so handy when I stitch in the living room. I am always saving those ORTs for the TUSAL, ya know. Thank you so very much, Myra. I will treasure this! BTW, Myra's house must smell heavenly...

Then came this pretty wrapped package from Shirlee. It "says" jingle bells on the wrapping. AND it jingles! *squee* What could it be?

I thought about saving this to open on Christmas morning but greed got the best of me and I opened it:

Oh, my. Isn't it pretty? You wouldn't believe how carefully and perfectly this ornament is finished. I LOVE the jingle bell accent too. Thank you so much, Shirlee. This will join my treasured stitched ornaments on my tree every year!

No stitching of my own to share yet. I started another project on Sunday and very nearly completed it! I want to wait until I'm done before I show it off.

Sad news. Sheba's biopsy indicated a malignant cancer. This means it can easily spread ~ to the other thyroid and to the lungs most likely. Our vet is researching our options with an oncologist and we will see. She did say it was a 50/50 chance of recurrence and it could be as long as two years or more before that happens. Of course, Sheba will not be allowed to suffer no matter how much we want to keep her with us. For now, we will enjoy her company and work on keeping her happy and healthy. Thank you all for the good thoughts and wishes in my posts on this subject. You have helped us so much. *hugs* to all.

Meet My Mummy

There was an mysterious fat package in my mailbox last week. It was very heavy. What could it be? I was a little grim thinking maybe this was a donation for the Totally Useless giveaway, oh dear! Surely nobody sent me a two-pound pincushion? That package is going to be heavy enough as it is!

Imagine my glee when I opened it and discovered this darling *squee* mummy inside. Last year, I had admired Tanya's Halloween decor and truly coveted the mummy she had made. Tanya knew I loved her so much she sent her to me! Mine! My own mummy! Sweet Miss Mummy is residing spookily on my bookshelf for the holiday season. I love her to pieces. Thank you Tanya!

I also received another package last week, this one expected. Every now and again I see something from the UK I just have to have and I'll call on my good friend Lindsay to get it for me. Then, in return, I'll do a favor when asked. Of course, every now and again one of us will open our mailbox to find the other has filled it with something unexpected and awesome. (wait, on second thought, Lindsay probably has a door slot for mail deliveries *giggle*) Anyway, I saw this Margaret Sherry magazine on Bec's blog. Ooo, Margaret Sherry! I could not resist, so an email to Lindsay was in order. Thank you Lindsay! You too, Bec, you shameless enabler you!

According to Sharon, I've been teasing you with hints about my new project. Okay, I'll stop now! I finished kitting up and started stitching yesterday. I'm going to stitch Prairie Schooler's Twelve Day's of Christmas. Each square as an individual ornament. I've been looking for that perfect "12 Days" chart and have even bought several but they were either too big (I don't want 5x7 inch ornaments) or charted as a group only. I was so pleased to find this design.

One of you "out there" is stitching this too but I'm sorry, I can't remember who you are. If you've been blogging this design recently it was probably you, speak up! You were my inspiration ~ thank you!

So, I snagged one Prairie Schooler chart off eBay. I've pulled my colors. Some I didn't like (copper red? For Christmas? Ewww!) and some did not match the model close enough and those were swapped out. I measured out enough 32 count Lugana, tea-stained it and cut it into 12 ornament sized pieces.

And here is my start! Wow, this is a really fast stitch. I started last night and only had a short time for stitching. It would be nice to have these all done in time for the Christmas tree this year but I know it won't happen. I'm not a fast stitcher or finisher. Plus, I work full time. I thought about making this my 2012 project and stitch & finish one ornament each month, very doable for me. But I couldn't wait to start. I just about went insane the weeks I waited to start Crabby All Year, that time. I'm not set up for waiting, I guess. I want it NOW!

I still need to find fabric for the backing. I figured I'd wait and get a couple of them stitched so I could color match. Darn, I have to go to Joann's Fabric store. What a shame. I can't wait! I hate waiting!

One For Me and One For You

Here is the one for me:

This darling ornament is from Karen of Karen's Handiwork. Every month Karen stitches two identical Christmas ornaments. One is for her own tree and the other is an "exchange" gift for one of her followers. I adore Bent Creek designs and Karen's finishing is just lovely. Jealous, aren't you? Well, you might be chosen next ~ but only if you are one of her followers, right? You know what to do!

Here is the one for you:

Design ~ Woodland Joy
Designer ~ Something In Common
Fabric ~ 32 count Daffycat-dyed I Can't Remember Fabric
Fiber ~ DMC as charted

Well ~ actually for Angela of Hooked on Stitches! This was for our Ornament Swap group. It's Angela's turn to receive so keep an eye out to see what everyone stitched for her! I used my new favorite edging technique on this one, ribbon and beads and the red-checked fabric is the backing. I did use brown thread for the eyes because the white French Knots as charted kinda made them look like zombie owls! I know I saved Woodland Joy from Something In Common's website years ago. It was a freebie. The site is gone now ~ so sad.

Because I get a lot of, "Oh, your stitching is so perfect. I could never be as good as you!" comments and emails ~ I must show you this next photo:

ROFLMAO This is the border part of Angela's ornament. The left hand one is correct. The right side one is WRONG! Because ~ I can't follow directions. I gathered up all my supplies, printed off the chart and merrily started stitching. In fact, I actually took this to work with me when we had a heavy snowstorm and I knew it would be a long, boring day. Once I finished the border, something kept bugging me. It just didn't look right. What is wrong? Oh, the instructions say ONE thread and I used TWO. *sigh* PLUS I stitched the inner backstitched border green and it's supposed to be red. *sigh* I really, really can't follow directions! And even once again, I forgot to stitch "Daffycat" at the bottom. See? Not so perfect. You just can't see my pile of scrap starts, nor do I always show off those bits I toss angrily into the trash...

Dreams

I had a hard time deciding what to stitch next. That is unusual. My next project is often lined up well before I have a finish but I got off track somehow. It took some doing, but I finally decided on Dandy Dreams by Silver Creek Samplers. I'm thinking this will make a darling pillow when I am through! Yay ~ a new start!

Thank you so much for the kind words about my latest finishes! Anne has received my giveaway and Jackie has received my RAK. It is such a pleasure to stitch for my blog friends. I adore surprising someone with a hidden giveaway or a random act of kindness. My blog friends are the best!

I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

It's been kind of a crappy few weeks. What with two major snowstorms and dealing with several problems that have cropped up at work ~ I'm left feeling glad February is such a short month! Then, last weekend I come down with the flu. The real honest-to-goodness flu. Fever, chills, body aches and it put me flat for several days. I'm seldom ill enough to stay home from work. Indeed, when I checked, I found I've only taken three sick days in four years!

It was so nice to find a sweet package in the mailbox for me. Valerie of Fog City Dweller, had a blogoversary giveaway and I won! And boy did I get spoiled...

It was all I could do to stop and take photos...
I just wanted to RIP RIP RIP!

Oh what fun!

A close-up of the gorgeous fob.

Isn't it the yummiest?

Oh my, I keep picking it up and caressing it. I will treasure this fob, Valerie. Thank you so very much! I am so blessed with friends of such creativity & kindness.

Ceremony of the ORTs

I'm a little late with posting but I assure you, the ceremonial dumping of the ORTs went off on time!
Here is my little monthly jar next to my big ORT container. Reluctantly, I included the dreadful Ball of Shame.

The little jar is now clean and ready to be filled with the next month's offerings. I think I'll offer the Ball of Shame to the birds. I really can't stand looking at the little sucker anymore! If you'd like to save your ORTs and show us the results every new moon there is a link in my sidebar for the TU SAL (Totally Useless Stitch-A-Long) We'd love for you to join in!
*

I had the nicest surprise in my mailbox last week from Karen. She made these darling little note cards & folder and sent them as a thank-you gift for the RAK I sent her. Aren't they precious? She is obviously very talented at papercrafting! Thank you so much, Karen!

I Love Ladybugs

When I spotted Myra's sweet, adorable ladybug finish I knew I HAD to stitch her myself. She is just so cute and sassy! I actually stitched and finished her as a magnetic needle minder in one evening. This counts as A BIG DEAL because she has fifteen different colors AND she is stitched over-one. And I rarely stitch over-one. The fabric pictured was used on the back. Teeny-tiny, she was the perfect size for the needle minder. I love her!

Design ~ In Your Easter Bonnet
Designer ~ Brooke's Books
From ~ Just Cross Stitch, March/April 2010
Fabric ~ 28 count monaco
Fiber ~ DMC
Finish ~ Magnetic Needle Minder

What was I doing stitching yet another new project when I should be working on Snapper year? I'm happy to say, there has been splendid progress on April's block, so there! Seriously, it rained ALL weekend so was perfect for stitching.

Risking getting my hair pulled

Or my face scratched by my horrible, cackling, witchy, jealous friend Deborah (bless her black, icky heart) may I present my prize from Missy's 13 Days of Halloween giveaway?

Way too cool. I got a spook-tacular crypt with a skull on the front, a pair of (darling) purple scissors (perfect for traveling) and there is another little magnetic skull inside to hold needles and pins. Fridge magnets, a vampire lips pin, candy and a pencil rounds out the package. Missy was so clever putting these prize packages together!

I was so good not peeking at Missy's photo link on her blog. It was hard to resist! Not knowing made it loads of fun to open the box. Thank you ever so much Missy!

Please meet Merry

OMG
OMG
OMG

When I arrived home after work I found I have an unexpected houseguest. Would you all please say hello to my new friend, Merry, who's come all the way to Oklahoma from England to stay with me! Merry wears the most beautiful red frock with a lovely tartan scarf. Isn't she the sweetest? Merry has already been quite busy since she arrived.

She has been helping with my blogging.

Merry snuggled with Sheba!

Then, Merry met Taco. Taco was so excited she kept rubbing on Merry. This nearly knocked Merry off the floss cabinet! It was also difficult to get a clear picture with all that happy rubbing. Calm down, Taco!

Merry also helped a bit with the October Crabby block.

A big thank you to Julie for sending Merry my way! I adore her. I've wanted (coveted) one of Julie's precious bunnies since I saw the first one she made! Thank you so much Julie!

Birthday mail, part two

My dear friend, Lindsay, was working on a birthday present for me but time got away from her. We all know how that goes! Today it arrived, a little late but well worth the wait! I had this tiny button tin, a gold plated sewing set from Madeira with darling stork scissors and the most gorgeous beaded tassel for a fob.

The tassel is amazing, Lindsay, you are so clever! It's in my favorite colors too!

Thank you Lindsay! I treasure these pressies!

Blizzard Weekend

Oklahoma was under a blizzard warning starting Friday. In Stillwater, we were supposed to get up to a foot of snow Friday afternoon into Saturday afternoon. I was excited to think we were finally going to get snow but mad it waited until nearly April to get here. Especially considering Saturday was our Tulsa Talons' opening Arena football game and if the roads were bad we could miss the game! I shouldn't have worried. The snow didn't even start until late Saturday morning and we only got a couple of inches, not even enough to cover the weeds in the grass. (Yes, our lawn wants mowing!) To be fair, some areas in Oklahoma did get a couple of feet of snow! The drive to Tulsa was not too bad, although Tulsa had a lot more snow and the closer we got the worse the roads were with cars in ditches all over. We had dinner at McNellie's Public House and so what if they have beers from all over the world, I still had my Bud Lite with salt & lime. Boring, eh?

The Talons' opening game was against the Kentucky Horsemen. This year, we have a new arena at the new BOK center. I liked the new venue but I do miss our old smaller arena, the fans could make that one thunder with noise and we were famous for doing so! We won the game, but it was close! The team looks great with a few new faces and we are geared up for a great season.

All the excitement with snow and the first arena game and we forgot to check the mail yesterday! Rick finally went down to the box about noon and look what I missed! A short time ago, Lei of And Sew It Goes... had a giveaway and I entered & won! So, I knew this stitched piece was coming but had no idea Lei would make me such a beautiful happiness ornament! Isn't this the most darling design? And it's my favorite color, green, and I love ladybugs! I do have plans for the stitched piece, I'll share the results when I get it finished.

Thank you Lei, these are beautifully stitched!

Really want to cry

It's the middle of The Week From Hell at work. Things aren't going to get better very fast. I come home exhausted from the stress of what is going on and all I want to do is sit and cry. And maybe scream obscenities at a few really stupid people. You know I don't ever say much about my work (the smart thing to do) but this week really takes the cake. I will say this...my job is not in jeopardy but it really sucks to be in management and know what is really going on.

Imagine my surprise and extreme pleasure to open my mailbox and find this RAK from Jill of Purple peacock. Jill wrote she saw I needed new scissors so... Completely gobsmacked, that's me! Jill, I can't thank you enough. Your thoughtfulness and generosity are phenomenal. I think you must be a touch psychic too, your gift could not have come at a better time. I needed cheering. ***HUGS***

Here is Ranae's ladybug fob on my darling new scissors. They fit together just perfectly!

Thank you again, darling Jill.
You really made my week!

I need new scissors

It was Ranae's 2nd Blogoversary and she held a giveaway. I wasn't the "big" winner but was lucky enough to be drawn for one of the runner-up prizes: a custom scissor fob. Look what Ranae made for me...the most beautiful ladybug fob! The pictures do not do the actual colors justice. This is so gorgeous, I need new scissors. What a predicament! LOL

Thank you Ranae...this is so special to me!

Birthday Mail

There was mail in my box today. Birthday mail! First up here is a birthday card & package from my dear friend, Joan, in London. Joan and I are long-time snail mail pen pals. Every year she sends me something from Red Nose Day. It usually shows up around my birthday. This year it is a pin badge and a charm. The charm will probably end up on my cell phone! Cute, cute, cute! Thank you, Joan!

Next I opened this lovely Post Box Floss Tag from Rachael, along with birthday greetings and some ribbon and Kreinik braid. I adore the post box...Rachael knows how much I love all things British. Thank you, Rachael, for thinking of me!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally, some WIP pictures. While waiting for March to arrive, I stitched a teeny bit on Peacock Cypher. There isn't a great deal of progress (not a lot of stitching time) but I was able to stitch the two butterflies and row of over-one lettering at the very bottom.
Then on Sunday, I was finally able to get out Crabby All Year and begin Wind for the month of March. Again, not a lot completed but it is a start.
Thank you all for the wonderful happy birthday wishes on my last post, and the emails too. You are such dear friends and I cherish you.
A Valentine
Here is the sweetest Valentine from Becky! It arrived in my mailbox today. Isn't that little frog absolutely adorable? And one can always use DMC 321!
Thank you, Becky!
I haven't been able to read my (your) blogs for two days. On Monday, I was helping Jessie with theatre homework...Hamlet. We spent about four hours studying the Bard's famous play. It helps immensely that Jess has seen the movies and watched a few live performances of Hamlet. I trust she will receive a good grade on this section!
Yesterday, I'd planned on spending the evening catching up on blogs; instead we hid in the basement when the tornado sirens blew. You should have seen me, I carried a sixty pound frightened Border Collie down the steep basement stairs! In fact, I bet I went up & down those damn stairs 40 times last night! Then, the electric went out. With no TV, we had no idea if it was finished or if more storms were coming. (I'm getting a battery radio this weekend.) I finally went out to the truck and listened to the radio...while I was in the truck, it began hailing ~ I was stuck! There came a brief let-up and I dashed back into the house! Fun night, not. Our electric was out for only a couple of hours at most. I know many must still be without power because I had lots of phone calls at work today, asking if we had dry ice. There were five (?) tornadoes in Oklahoma last night. Last I heard, eight people had died. One tornado went very near my parent's house. Dad says the houses in the street behind his are missing their roofs! No damage at his house, thank God. Welcome to spring in Oklahoma; only a bit early.
Today is my beloved niece's birthday. Happy birthday, Danelle!
I'm coming along with Crabby but no picture today. I really need to catch up on blogs!
Angel Mail
A Peace Angel has arrived from Sandra! Sandra had a goal of sending 50 angels flying to friends all over the world. This one landed yesterday but I had to go pick it up from the post office after work today. Worth waiting for! Sandra made me the cutest Angel pinkeep! Look at her sweet dress and the heart on her wing. Adorable. She even personalized the envelope, how creative!
Thank you, Sandra! I love her!
Sneak Peek
Sorry for disappearing all week! I was going along strong on Crabby when I got a little cross stitch obsession aversion therapy in the form of a two-evening headache. That really put me off my form. The week at work was l o n g for some reason. Friday couldn't get here soon enough. Then, I had a brilliant design idea so I've been working hard on that, perfecting and now stitching. This will be shared in the form of a freebie, possibly next Friday. Stay tuned in for that! Here is a little sneak peek...
Sadly, the weekend hasn't been much better. I got all geared up to finish the housework early yesterday morning so I could have the rest of the weekend free to design and stitch and play with stash. I was doing laundry and blog reading when the sewer backed up into the bathtub and toilets! You should have seen Taco-cat's eyes when big bubbles erupted from the toilet; and her tail bushed! The back bathroom toilet overflowed and the main baths' nearly did. Good Lord, what a mess! Everything was at a standstill until the plumber could come and snake out the main line. Why does this kind of thing always happen of a Saturday, when it costs twice as much? We are back in business though...after a thorough bleaching!
Finally, I feel like stitching again. Just in time to go back to work. Blah!
I like to wish a very happy birthday to my dear friend, Angela! Hey, you! Where's the cake?
I hope to get another Crabby update in for you soon. In the meantime, be sure to check the other participants' blogs for their updates. The links are in my sidebar. They all look really awesome! Way to go girls!
