Last Night...

...of Hanukkah. I don't celebrate but my sister, Carol, does. Every year I try to send her a little something, if only a greeting card. This year I decided to stitch her a card. It took some doing to find a design! I searched like mad and came up with this one. I had to change the colors since I didn't like the charted colors. It used 333 ~ purple? For Hanukkah? Really? Besides, my sister really likes blue and white, especially for Hanukkah. I also adjusted the design, adding in two more branches on the Menorah to make it a proper Chanukiah and changed the border design a bit. Carol seemed suitably pleased with her gift.

When I finish greeting cards like this I add a tiny bit of fiberfill behind the design to make it a little puffy. I also iron on interfacing to the back side so the color from the card stock doesn't show through spoil the pretty. It has been a LONG time since I made a greeting card. This was fun!

A Happy 4th ~ Ort Report

I am a little late with my TUSAL this time around. Rick & I have been on a mini-holiday from home and work. It was so nice to get away even if only for very a short time. We saw a movie (Transformers) at Warren Theatre in Moore, Oklahoma. It was lovely ~ we had the balcony seats where waiters come to your seats to serve food and drinks. Nice! In addition to beer & popcorn, I had a "yoda" which was slightly green and tasted like liquid Jolly Ranchers & vodka ~ LOL! We spent the night in Bricktown in Oklahoma City. Our room had a big whirlpool tub and a wonderful view of the baseball park. Dinner was at Crabtown, across the street from our hotel. Their catfish was heavenly. I even got to do a little stitching and stashing. Here is my ORT jar with my pretty new ladybug scissors: 

As you can see from the ORT Report photo, I didn't have much left to stitch on my WIP. I finished it up when we got home and sewed it into a cute pillow, just in time for the 4th of July holiday. The alphabet was charted with random letters in the darker brown. I changed them around to my initials, SDB. I was able to find the perfect fabric in my stash ~ always a plus!

Today I am kitting up for the next exchange in the Ornament Swap. This is going to be a really fun design to stitch. Will stitching Christmas stuff will make me feel cooler? I hope so. It's still sweltering hot. Blech.

Waiting for Santa

Look what happened over the weekend:

100,000 visitors? Are you freakin' serious? And I've reached 500 followers as well? This is a joke, right? OMG Don't you people know how completely boring and ordinary I am? I truly don't deserve such kind and faithful readers...you all make me feel wonderfully special. Thank you.

This also happened over the weekend:

One Christmas tree ~ up and decorated! Rick came home with a new artificial tree for us as our old one was pretty ratty. Maybe I'm finding my Christmas Spirit after all? I've been admiring all the cross stitched ornaments I have and I realized I don't have any stitched by me. Every single one came as a gift or an exchange! I should stitch myself a few, don't you think? But I so love stitching for others...

Here is where I'm at on my Bent Creek Snapper Year. Slow going. I've been working on a couple of other things (remember my blogoversary giveaways?) I don't think I will have any trouble finishing up in time. Then, THEN! I still have to work that horrifying border. You forgot about that, didn't you? It still scares the living daylights outta me. *sigh* one stitch at a time, right?

Snowed in!

I will never wish for a white Christmas again! A blizzard snowstorm hit Oklahoma on Christmas Eve. It began in the morning with sleet that turned to snow with 45 MPH winds that cut through you like needles. I've never seen snow blowing like this before! In the city, they were closing the malls and cancelling Christmas services at churches. By the afternoon most highways were nearly impassable and those ended up being closed as well. We ended up stuck at home for Christmas day, even though my parents live less than an hour away. The highways were still closed and there was no going out.

It wasn't even a pretty snow here as the wind whipped the snow into tall drifts that left the grass still peeking out in places.

But the wind was nice enough to blow it away from the truck into drifts a couple of feet high.

It left my froggie on the front step exposed as well!

We had a nice Christmas even if it didn't go as planned. It was a good thing I had a ham in the fridge or we wouldn't even have had a Christmas dinner! Jessie, and her BF Matt, stayed the night and after Santa came we opened gifts and played like kids.

Rick looked up my wish list and bought me loads of fabric and patterns I'd been wanting! Jessie gave me this cute design book with lots of fun, snuggly animals.

Here is what was in my package from Lisa! Thank you so much Lisa, you are an angel.

Still working on Crabby. Hoping to have it finished soon. I'll be back with an update as soon as I've finished! Be prepared for major happy dancing when this occurs!
