It's Tax Day

I had hoped to have my Taxes finished today. Yes, I'm aware the tax mailing deadline is tonight...I'm not talking IRS taxes but Crabby Taxes! (hee hee) My IRS taxes were finished the day after we got all our forms in the mail w-aaay back in January. Since I wasn't able to post an April finish yet, I thought at least I'd show you where I'm at. And offer a little stitching tip since this piece is such a good example.

When there is a large area to fill in one color you should always vary the ends of your rows as I have done in the photo above. If you end each row in a straight line down there will be a weird line visible in your finished block. The varied rows hide the stopping/starting places. When I was a beginner stitcher, I once threw away a half-completed project because it showed so badly!

In Other News

Angela (read my mind and) invited me to her new Lizzie Kate Exchange blog. I'd been itching for an exchange so I've already joined the first round. This will be a fun one! Why don't you join us?

Thank you for visiting my blog today!

Hi Sharon,

You are making great progress on a Crabby Year!

The new Lizzie Kate exchange looks like fun. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you stitch and what you receive. :-)

I love the April block. We don't have tax day in my country in April, but in your country this is a neat idea for the Crabby Year.

Interesting tip, I didn't know that! Never noticed it on any of my stitching, but will know now to watch out for it :)

Taxes is looking great!

Now you've given ame a real problem, to join the exchange or not.

Interesting tip. I've never noticed that problem myself. Maybe it depends on the method you use to secure the starting and ending threads. Anyway, the piece is looking very nice.

Thank you for the tip. That is something I hadn't noticed - not done a great deal of stitching in large colour blocks. Really helpful to know. Again, thank you :)

Crabby looks good and great tip! I try to do this as I don't like to see that weird line too :) Thanks for the exchange blog mention too, it's going to be loads of fun!

Very cute. (Can you say that about taxes???)

I love the pencil. Mine would have had to show chew marks from doing MY taxes.

Our Inland revenue use the slogan "Tax doesn't have to be taxing" to try and get us to do our returns online. Looks like you aren't finding tax taxing :)

Sharon, tax block is looking great.
You're not using varigated thread are you? I'm stitching large blocks of colors on my Rainbow Row and not noticing what you're talking about. Sounds like a great tip, just want to make sure I understand it;)

I must be an idiot!!! I DID NOT know this about filling in a large area. This is a FANTASTIC tip!!! Thank you so much for bringing it to my attention. I will do this from now on...PROMISE! :o)

I love how you are doing this the whole year--I so look forward to seeing it. And what could make a person MORE crabby than taxes in April??!! Perfect!

Your Tax Day is coming along so nicely. Hmmm... tax and nice in a sentence. That's a first! LOL

What a great hint about filling in. I'll try that. I try to avoid big areas to fill in - I have no patience for it. I recently decided if I have a big area to fill in, I'm only doing half cross stitches. Works for me!

It's looking good!

Thanks for the tip! I will surely do that from now on.

Thanks so much for your comment on my rug! It really made me laugh! I know you know cats too! Any new thing must past inspection by 7 critical cats!
