Somebody Shoot that Groundhog

I survived the Snowpocalypse. Stillwater got about 10 inches of snow in blizzard conditions. Rick was a sweetie and took me to work yesterday and today. People were getting stuck in the snow left & right! Jessie & Matt got her car stuck trying to get her to work and she ended up calling in. Today it's just bitter cold and sunny. Tomorrow morning it's supposed to be -5 degrees! I can't remember having temperatures that low before. Just for comparison...last Friday it was nearly 75. It's so not fair. Now, the dratted Groundhog has seen his shadow and that means another six weeks of winter.

I'm glad now I recently stitched a bit of spring! Way back in November, I had a blogoversary giveaway and Ma Teakettle of The Teakettle Corner was one of my winners. I promised a bit of stitching but couldn't promise it would be soon. January came and I finally got all my deadline obligations out of the way so I could concentrate on stitching my prizes. Tired of winter and ready for some spring colors I decided to stitch Karyn a design I'd had in my stash for ages. Once it was finished I sewed it into a pretty pink paisley pillow, suitable to decorate a chair or the guest room bed.

Design ~ ABC à la Ferme
Designer ~ L' R de rien
Fabric ~ 28 count mystery tea-dyed by Daffycat
Fiber ~ DMC as charted
Finish ~ Large pillow

The photo above probably has the most correct colors. I'm really pleased with my sewing here. It's becoming easier every time I do it. Still nerve wracking though...

Yes, I am aware the "W" is missing. It's a French design so there isn't one! I did stitch the "K" and the "S" in a pretty purple, just to make it special. Karyn has let me know how much she likes my little present and I hope she knows how much I enjoyed making it for her!

Thank you for visiting my blog today!

We have the snow too a foot of the stuff. Darn I cant remember the last time it was 75 degrees here. Probably last September. I want spring. Our ground hog didn't see his shadow we are suppose to have an early spring. Yeah Like I believe that. I really hate those ground hogs

What a frightful storm that swept across the midwest. We were on the very southern end of it and only got a little ice in the northern part of our county. So glad you made it through the storm.
Your pillow is lovely. Karyn is a lucky girl.
I feel the same about sewing. I'm definitely not a seamstress so when I do sew it makes me nervous :0)

Beautiful pillow :-))
Hope it will make you feel better :-)) - 2011 Groundhog's Day Results: "The world’s most famous weather predicting groundhog, Phil, did NOT see his shadow this morning, so according to the folklore, good bye winter, hello early spring!"

Anonymous said...

Phil DIDN'T see his shadow in Pennsylvania. So Phil says it will be an early spring. Listen to Phil.

Not sure what General Beauregard in Atlanta saw. If he was in Orlando, he wouldn't see his shadow.

Which groundhog do you have?

Beautiful stitching! But I think Mr Groundhog did not see his shadow.

Gosh...I swear the news over here said that there would be an early spring. I must have got it wrong.

The pillow is totally cute! Love it! Great job!

Daffycat said...

Hmmmm, all our local news was saying he predicted more winter. Maybe they were going by the sunshine we are having today instead of the official groundhog forecast?

Cute, cute, cute. Dratted groundhog! Harumph!

Love the pillow, such a cute finish. I might have to consider a pillow for the little thing I'm stitching right now .

I'm in TN and the snow hasn't got here yet. I've had enough all ready.

What a gorgeous finish. I am utterly useless with a sewing machine, but am hoping that once I buy one I'll master it (eventually)

What a lovely gift for Karyn. I love the colors and yes, a touch of spring is important for all of us these days.

Ours says 6 more weeks too... It's been a crazy winter, more snow than I ever remember! And drastic temperature changes, going from -30C to +5C in less than 48 hours!

Great job on your blogoversary prize, it's a beautiful pillow :)

Gorgeous finish! Love the finishing fabric.

I also wish the seasons would change - it is scorching in Cape Town and I hate the heat! I would love to exchange some of our heat for your cold :)

I hope our lovely PA groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, is right and that there will be an early spring. I can't believe all this crazy weather around the country. We've been so, so lucky here in the Pittsburgh region (knock on wood!!)--have escaped all the major storms so far.

Gorgeous pillow for your blogoversary winner, Sharon! Love those little birds :)

What a lovely finish. Unfortunately I'm not brave enough to attempt a pillow although I do seem to be walking past the sewing machines in JoAnn's more often these days! lol

I'm so fed up of the snow - we got about twelve inches yesterday. Roll on spring!

You did such a great job! I love this pillow!

It does seem like the weather has gotten crazier over the years.

I love your pillow. I learned something I didn't know - French alphabets don't have a W. Shows I haven't stitched many French samplers - LOL!!

Wiarton Willie here in Canada says it will be an early spring. I'm hoping he's right. Our snow dump amounted to around 10 inches as well.
I just spotted your pillow on Karyn's blog. It's absolutely gorgeous!! I love the fabric you chose.

Love your pillow and it is wonderful to think of spring. I live in the south so all we got was rain from this latest storm thank goodness.
Have a great weekend.

Ha,ha,ha I had to laugh at the title of your post! Why couldn't someone "put a Bag" over the Groundhogs head, so he couldn't see! LOL
Don't shoot him.

Oh I just love your pillow. The design is just too cute. I have never heard of L' R de rien. Is there a good place to look on the web for designs like this one?

Glad that you made it through the storm OK. I don't know about you, but I am ready for Spring. Have a good weekend.
