Merry Christmas!

Don't let my title throw you, spring is still here even though we keep warming up, then falling back into cold winter. It's been lovely here this week and I'm sitting at my desk drinking Lady Gray tea after a nice lunch.

I thought my lunch was pretty so I snapped a pic. My dinnerware has seen better days though. Is it cheating making your tea by popping a tea bag into a reusable K-cup and running it through the Keurig? Oh, how lazy!

But I didn't title this post Pretty Lunch and Cheaters Tea, did I? Here is Merry Christmas:

Design ~ Merry Christmas
Designer ~ Nancy Boyarsky of Glory Bee
design from the JCS 10th Anniversary Collection book
Fabric ~ 32 count Lugana, tea dyed
Fiber ~ DMC

I did something different when finishing this, after I sewed it up I thought it looked awfully nice, just the way it was. Instead of stuffing it, I added a piece of cotton quilt batting that I put iron-on interfacing on both sides of to stiffen and trimmed to fit inside. I hand-sewed the turning space and trimmed the seams with cording to match.

The result was this flat, but still soft ornament. I probably won't make many of these because usually I need to stuff them to hide imperfections, but this one looked great. I love everything about this ornament, the design, with the crammed together "MAS" to make it fit and the smyrna stitches in the border and I love the unusual finish.

I leave you with a picture of Molly and her tongue tip poked out. She goes about like this ever since she lost those three little front teeth, it's much worse when she sleeps, an inch or more. My conclusion is those three teeth were a key component of the tongue retention system...

Thank you for visiting my blog today!

Molly put a smile on my face! Lunch does look good and your Christmas piece too.

My kitty has the same look as Molly! She had to have three top front teeth removed (when I adopted her, she already had her front teeth missing...vet thinks it's either poor diet, as she's a rescue, or just roll of the dice genetics, inheriting bad teeth genes). So there's usually a wee pink tongue tip sticking out of her mouth! The stitching finish is really sweet...I'm going to have to "copy" you.

Molly is very cute - we used to have a cat who had her tongue sticking out frequently.

I love your ornament finish. Well done! Molly is a cutie. Your lunch looks yummy. Thanks for sharing its picture! I don't think it is lazy or cheating at all by using your Keurig to make a cup of tea.

Interesting lunch. A bit pickle-heavy for my taste, but to each his own!

Love the way you finished the ornament. I've used pieces of felt for the same soft-flat effect, but I like your idea maybe better.

Very sweet doggie face!

Molly is absolutely precious! I think Murphy would love playing with her.

Your finish is stunning. I know you said you need to stuff ornaments to hide imperfections. Girl, your stitching and finishing is not imperfect!!!

I really like the way you have definite this sweet ornament. I have to admit to being a lazy finisher and doing nearly all of mine just one way. x

Ooo, Molly is now has a natural blep, how cute!

That lunch looks fantastic to me. I could probably live on anything pickled though. :D

I like the smooshed up 'mas' too; it looks great.

Aww... look at sweet Molly :)

Very interesting ornament finishing idea--will have to file that away in my "to be tried" ideas, Sharon. It looks great and all ready for your Christmas tree!

Love the ornament finishing idea and if I ever get around to finishing that tub of stitched ones I'm going to use it. I hate when I loose a major component - like most of my marbles. :-)

Had to save the idea for future ornies, I never would have thought of doing it that way. Great idea and beautiful work.
Her little tongue poke just makes her that much cuter.
Hugs, Sandy
